10 years after the handover, for the first time we have a democratically elected representative challenging the incumbent candidate blessed by the Central Government in the Chief Executive Election. It has been made possible only with the hard work and determination of the people of Hong Kong. From their fight for dual universal suffrage in 2007/08, to their fight for dual universal suffrage in 2012 now, the Hong Kong people have stood firm in their quest for democracy.
Through my past experiences, I have come to understand that to fight for democracy is to fight for Hong Kong people's right to choose. Everyone in Hong Kong works very hard for a living; everybody has contributed to Hong Kong's success. But the present small-circle election system deprives most people of their right to vote for the Chief Executive!
The Hong Kong people are entitled to the right to choose their Chief Executive and all members of the Legislative Council. The Central Government has long made such promise as stipulated in the Basic Law. We want to elect a government we trust. Only then can injustice in society be redressed, and equal opportunities be given to people for a better life.
